Despite Pitrelli’s Performance From Deep, Wolverines Lose to Lincoln Park

Despite a strong performance from 3-point range from Rick Pitrelli, Ellwood City fell to top-ranked Lincoln Park 64-50 Tuesday Night in Section 1-3A play.

Pitrelli connected on five 3-pointers en route to his team high 17 points (5-10 shooting, 3 rebounds, 4 assists)

The junior forward connected on trifecta of deep balls in an entertaining first quarter that saw the Wolverines race out to a 17-15 lead.

After trailing 28-24 at half, Ellwood City raced out a brief lead early in the 3rd quarter – aided by the 3-ball, but poor second half shooting helped Lincoln Park overcome the deficit and pull away for victory.  The Wolverines shot 32% in the second half and for the game only hit half of their free throws (9-18 FT shooting).

Anthony Roth put up two three-pointers and scored 14 points for Ellwood City. Also contributing for Ellwood City Wolverines were Luca Botti (9 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal), Ryan Busby (4 points, 2 rebounds), Sean Busby (4 points, 8 rebounds, 1 block), and Andrew O’Brien (2 points, 3 rebounds, 1 block).

Ellwood City finished the game with 24 rebounds (10 offensive / 14 defensive), 14 assists, two blocks and eight steals.

Lincoln Park (6-4 overall, 3-0), who finished with 26 second chance points and 19-24 from the free throw line as a team, were lead by Keeno Holmes who finished with a game-high 24 points (7-15 shooting, 7-10 FT, 10 rebounds, 3 steals).

Ellwood City (10-4 overall) next host Farrell Wednesday evening in a non-section contest before traveling to Aliquippa to resume section play Friday night at 7:30pm.
