Lady Panthers Top Wolverines In Rivalry Game 2.0

For some, the buzz of Friday Night’s boys basketball game may have worn off by the end of the weekend, but if anyone needed another reason to get excited for high school basketball action, the buzz resurfaced Monday Night during the Panthers and Wolverines girls basketball game in Ellwood City.

The Lady Panthers ousted the Lady Wolverines 45-31 in a game that saw a defensive struggle for much of the first half.

Both teams combined for zero field goals and only five points in a second quarter that led the Panthers into halftime clinging to a 14-9 lead.

Ellwood City rallied several times in the second half to close the lead to as close as four points in the final frame, but Riverside used strong free throw shooting to keep the Wolverines at distance, and used 17 fourth quarter points to stretch out the final margin.

The Wolf sisters both finished in double-digits for the winners (Marley 13, Sydney 12) while Brielle Chesko also topped double-figures with 11 points for the victors.

Isabella Roth was the game high scorer, finishing with 16 points by way of five 3-pointers in a losing cause for the Wolverines.

The Panthers are now 8-2, 3-1 in section play, while Ellwood City falls to 4-9, 1-3.

Riverside girls basketball team has a home section game against Neshannock on Thursday, January 11 @ 7:30pm while the Lincoln girls basketball team travels to Laurel on Thursday for section play.
