Ellwood City Wolverines Defeat Rochester

Ellwood City defeated Rochester 64-62 on Wednesday after an evenly matched game that saw neither team lead by more than six points.

After the game worked its way to another tie late in the fourth quarter, Ellwood City used back to back three-pointers from Anthony Roth and Broc Boariu to stretch out to their biggest lead in the contest at 56-50.

Rochester fought back and after a three point play by Strozier tied the game again, Wolverine forward Bubsy secured a late offensive rebound and connected with a game-winning bucket.

Lincoln fell short early, trailing 29-27 by the half, only to come back strong in the final two quarters. Lincoln locked in their lead in the final quarter, scoring 21 points.  The Wolverines defense stood tall and held the Rams to 39% shooting and only allowed two Rochester 3-pointers in the contest.

Boariu led the charge for Lincoln’s offense, scoring 20 points, with seven points during the fourth period. He also contributed seven rebounds and one steal.  Busby punched in for another double-double, finishing with 18 points and 13 rebounds (6-9 shooting, 3 blocks).  Roth, who leads the team in scoring, was forced into a tough shooting night, finishing 4-16 from the field, but contributed with six rebounds, six assists, and 3 steals for the winners.

Andrew O’Brien also put up 5 points, five rebounds and two steals.  Roth (13 points) and Rick Pitrelli (8 points) each sunk multiple three-pointers.
