Updates on the Ellwood City Hospital

Over the past week dozens of employees had been laid off at the Ellwood City Hospital, an action that left the community wondering what’s going on.

Updates about the current state of the Ellwood City Hospital have remained far and in between since information about the sale had been made public earlier this year.

On October 24, CEO Beverly Annarumo released the following statement on the sale of the hospital:

“We are getting very close to closing on the sale of the hospital. And yes, we did have a layoff yesterday. On the bright side, we were able to retain 273 people. Unfortunately, we did lose 40 very talented members of our hospital family. It was an awful day for everyone. Something that I hope to never have to do again. We needed to get the staff size down to a size that we could financially manage until we can start to grow our services under our new ownership. We couldn’t continue as we were.”

The Hospital is expecting to close on the sale with a Florida company, Americore Health LLC.

“What we can do is make every effort to make our services outstanding and grow our new business lines quickly with the hope that we can afford to bring back the valuable talent we lost. Please do what you can to support us so we can be here to help you and your family, friends and neighbors for many years to come.”

The Ellwood City Hospital has been a valuable asset to the community, bringing jobs and convenient health services to the local community for over one hundred years.

Annarumo recognizes the importance of the hospital in the community and hopes that the sacrifices made today will ultimately promise a better, more prosperous future for the hospital.

Until then what are the people of Ellwood to do? Settle for less expensive, less talented personnel? The way of the future is the way of AGH and UPMC, as they absorb the smaller local hospitals, but even they cannot afford to buy a hospital that doesn’t have income to carry their own weight. How could UPMC buy ECH when the already have hospitals in New Castle and Sharon, as well as in Cranberry and North Hills? AGH has affiliations with Butler and Beaver, right? And this is happening BEFORE the new Healthcare plan is established and voted into force…and Congress is already pointing out it will close 800+ rural hospitals. I’m a big believer in prayer, but a lot can be said for calls to our US Congressmen an Senators as well, letters are just as good!

How are things at the hospital now? Did the ER close on the 19th?
In Lee county, Americore has failed to open a hospital and equipment is being moved out.
Everyone needs to press charges on Grant White.
