Rev. Carl E. Hockenberry, 87

Rev. Carl E. “Chip” Hockenberry, 87, of North Sewickley Twp went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, October 3, 2017. He had been under hospice care at the Ellwood City Hospital.

Born October 27, 1929 in Franklin Twp. Beaver County, he was the son of the late Loyal Earl Hockenberry and Ethel Grace McCartney Hockenberry.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Edna Ava Remaley Hockenberry who passed away November 21, 2011; and brothers, William, Kenneth, Don, and Gerald “Red” Hockenberry, Bobby and Eddie Kalajainen, and Chuckie Miller.

Rev. Hockenberry served as the Pastor of the Camp Run Free Methodist Church for 30 years. He was a lifelong member of the church. Carl formerly worked for the Ellwood City Tube Mill and Matthews Conveyer. Rev. Hockenberry also drove a tractor trailer for Shreiber’s, Brady’s, and Jones Motor Freight. Carl served in the US Army during the Korean War.

Carl is survived by two daughters, Lorraine (Rudy) Shirilla of Beaver Falls, Elaine Steighner of Ellwood City; two sons, Randy Hockenberry of Portersville, Gary (Karen) Hockenberry of Rochester; considered adopted sons, Tony Barge and Melvin McCracken; brother, Gary Kalajainen of New Castle; and two sisters, Devona “Vonnie” (James) Anderson of Prospect and Shirley Dittmer of Warren, Ohio. He is also survived by six grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday October 6, 2017 from 2-4 and 6 until the time of the funeral service at 8 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home, 200 Fountain Ave. Ellwood City. His nephew, Rev. Daniel Hockenberry of the Brookfield Christian Church will officiate the service. Interment will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
