Sara K. Mullin, 89

Sara K. Mullin, 89, of Dover Lane, Ellwood City, passed away in the Ellwood City Hospital on Monday, July 31, 2017.

Born in Ellwood City on July 30, 1928 Sara was the daughter of the late Matt and Sarah Manchen Kast.  Sara graduated from Lincoln High School in 1946 and worked in clerical offices at US Steel.  She then married Samuel Mullin, Jr. on November 24, 1956 and together they raised four children.  When they were grown, Sara went to Slippery Rock University and graduated in 1973 with her teaching certificate.  She worked as a substitute for many years in the Ellwood City, Riverside and nearby districts.

Sara took an active role in all of the civic and fraternal organizations in which she held membership.  She was a Past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star, she also served as Past President of the Ellwood City Hospital Auxiliary, Ellwood Garden Club, Women’s Club, PTA and Saxon Auxiliary.  She was a Cub Scout Den Mother.  An active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Sara was Superintendent of Sunday school and vacation bible school.  She was also a Circle Leader.  Sara worked at the Walnut Ridge polling station for many years and she was also very active with the Red Barn Theater.

Sara is survived by her husband of over 60 years, Samuel Mullin, Jr., a son Samuel (Karen) Mullin III of Fairfield, CA, a daughter, Susan (Kevin) Collins of Chesapeake Bay, MD, a son Scott Mullin of Zelienople, PA, six grandchildren; Lauren (Dan) McConnell, Rachel Mullin, Kylie Collins, Sean Collins, Cree Mullin and Jake Mullin, a sister, Helen Berendt of Florida and a brother, John (Juanita) Kast, also of Florida.

In addition to her parents, Sara was preceded in death by a son, Stevan M. Mullin.

Friends will be received on Friday, August 4th from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church, Spring Avenue, Ellwood City, where a memorial service will be held with Pastor Peggy Suhr-Barkley at 11:00 AM.  Interment will follow in Slippery Rock Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made in Sara’s name to Trinity Lutheran Church, 207 Spring Avenue, Ellwood City, PA  16117.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Joseph A. Tomon, Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 97 Grim Avenue, Ellport.
