After spending nearly six months turning the former service station into a lively convenience store, the owners of Barry Quick Mart, located on Line Avenue, are joined by their family, friends, and customers to celebrate their grand opening today until 4p.m.
Kuldip and Malkit Singh co-own the store together, which features general convenient store items, food, and gas pumps, two of which are full service, and they’re already pleased with the customer support.
“Business is picking up every day and the community has been very supportive. We heard about the business opportunity and pursued it. We are not here to steal anyone’s business, we’re just here to meet the needs of the customers and to center our service around the customer wants and needs,” Malkit stated.
As of now the business is open from 5:30a.m.-midnight on weekdays and 6a.m.-midnight on weekends, Malkit said he’s completely open to change the hours to better suit the community if needed, and although the business is still in its early days of operation, Malkit stated while he’s still learning about the local community he will be paying close attention to the customers and what they desire from the store.
As part of the grand opening celebration customers can enjoy complimentary face-painting, a taste of authentic Indian food, dessert and beverages – as well as getting to know the new business owners.
“They’re a great family, so nice. I really enjoy working for them and I’m glad to have them in the neighborhood,” Sam Greenberg, an employee of the shop said.
Both of the owners have previous experience in the owning and managing business – Malkit has two stores in Ohio and Kuldip has two stores in Pittsburgh.
“I don’t like living in the big cities, I much prefer the small towns like this. You get to know your customers and neighbors personally – and it’s much better that way,” Malkit said.
The family is extremely hopeful for the business and they look forward to being part of the Ellwood City community.
