Ellwood City has never seen so purple in it’s life – the Relay for Life event which took place on Saturday, June 10, was a success according to Relay for Life member, Jackie Kline.

“We had a good turn out and lot’s of support from the local community, I think overall the event was a success and we hope it’ll get even bigger in the years to come.”

This was the first Relay for Life that took place in downtown Ellwood, in previous years the event was hosted at Helling Stadium.

Several streets were blocked off for the event, which included a “Chalk the Town” and “Bark for Life” competition.

Along with the large crowd of supporters, many community stores showed their support by decorating storefronts.

Proceeds raised go to the American Cancer Society to fund research and support for cancer treatment and patients.
