United Fund Announces 20% Cut in Allotments to Service Agencies

The Ellwood City United Fund closed the 2017 campaign on January 31, and was $ 9358.00 short of its goal of $ 50,000.00.

It was hoped that donations through the spring months would fill the gap created by the shortage of the campaign. This did not happen and it is now approaching the time for the first disbursement of funds to our service agencies.

The first disbursement is planned for July 10, 2017. The agencies disbursement will be cut approximately 20% of the approved allotted funds. The United Fund agencies can expect to receive between $500.00 to $1000.00 less.

Connie MacDonald, president of the United fund board states, “we hate to not meet our obligation to the service  agencies that serve the community. The thing we don’t want to do is eliminate funding an approved agency. The agencies will receive less funds which can cause a hardship on the services they provide.”

The Ellwood City United Fund provides funds to the following agencies:

Ellwood Family Center        Ellwood City Library     Boy Scouts / Girl Scouts

People-in-need                     Unicenter H/S                 Lark Enterprises

City rescue Mission             Ellwood Education Foundation

The funds raised each year stay in our community and support the agencies that serve our community. The United Fund has been collecting donations and funding member agencies since 1955. The second(final) disbursement is planned for December 10, 2017.

Andy Kindle the United Fund Treasurer states, ” we hope the short fall of funds will be provided before the second disbursement in December. The board of directors wants to thank the community for faithfully helping those in need in our community. ”
