Ellwood City Man Pleads Guilty in Stepfathers Death

Following an incident that occurred the night of Dec. 7, 2014, suspect Zachary Christopher Jones, 24, of Ellwood City, pleaded guilty Friday to charges of voluntary manslaughter and conspiracy to commit aggravated assault.

Jones and his mother Lisa Marie Jones-Orock assaulted Gerald Lee Orock Jr., 57, of Fombell near the loading dock of Loccisano’s supermarket, leading to the mans death.

Both mother and son are charged with homicide after being accused of beating Orock with a chunk of wood measuring 32 inches long, 3 1/2 inches wide and 3/4-inch thick from a piece of furniture.

Although autopsy showed Orock died of blunt trauma to the head, prosecuting attorney Thomas W. Minett said he did not believe the killing was intentional because Orock was still alive when the pair left him in the parking lot.

Lisa Marie Jones-Orock pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and criminal conspiracy to commit aggravated assault and was sentenced May 4 to 4 1/2 to 6 years in prison with a credit of 879 days already served.

Jones was sentenced to 6 to 12 years in a state correctional facility, followed by four years of parole. He was given credit for the near two years he has already served.

  1. If the Ellwood police would have responded when called, Jerry would still be alive!
