PHOTOS: Lady Wolverines Defeat Seneca Valley, Improves Record to 8-0

The Lady Wolverines moved up in class on Saturday as they traveled to 6A Seneca Valley for a non section game.

The results remained the same however, as the 3A Wolverines returned home with an 8-5 victory.

Once again the Wolverines started fast as Ariana Garroway led off the first with a walk, stole second, advanced to third on a groundout by Zoe Kalantzis, and scored on a clutch 2 out rbi single by Reagan Mittler.

The blue and white would add to their lead in the top of the 4th as they scored twice to take a 3-0 lead. Natalia Greco led off the inning with a single and stole second base. Breonna Streit would bring Greco home with a line drive laced into right field. Eisabela Miller then reached on a bunt base hit as Streit alertly moved all the way to third. The smart base running would pay dividends as Megan Siegfried was able to plate Streit with a sacrifice fly into center field.

The Wolverines would stretch the lead to 5-0 in the fifth as they plated two more. Anna Ferrucci got things started with an infield single. She stole second and moved to third on another infield hit, this time courtesy of Mittler. Mittler then advanced to second on defensive indifference and Natalia Greco promptly brought them both in with a single to center.

The Raiders would cut the deficit to one as they would score 4 times in the home half of the fifth with two outs. The defense was uncharacteristically sloppy with two errors sandwiched between a walk, a single, and a double.

Ellwood City would answer the bell in the top of the sixth as they would score two more to take a 7-4 lead. Siegfried reached on an error and Garroway walked to put runners on first and second with one out. Ferrucci moved both runners up with a ground out to the second baseman and Zoe Kalantzis scored them with a sharp single into left field.

Seneca Valley made it 7-5 in the sixth with a leadoff homerun to centerfield but could not do any more damage.

The Wolverines would put the game away in the 7th as Natalia Greco started with a walk and would score on a double into the right centerfield gap by Miller. Skyla Greco would then shut the door on Seneca Valley in the 7th and the Lady Wolverines remained unbeaten.

Greco was tremendous once again in the circle as she breezed through the Raider offense for the complete game victory. She tossed a four hitter and fanned 10 while walking just two. On the season, the Seton Hill recruit has now struck out 68 batters in just 48 innings of work. Her ERA now sits at an impressive 1.17.

The Wolverines will return to section play on Tuesday as they travel across town to take on the rival Riverside Panthers. First pitch is scheduled for 4pm.
