Ellwood City Pro Wrestling Fans Eagerly Anticipate WrestleMania

Welcome to WrestleMania week! It’s the biggest week in the wild, wacky and wonderful world of Pro Wrestling.  As the Super Bowl of wrestling approaches, fanatics worldwide dissect Sunday’s matchups, make their predictions and talk about every possible scenario they see playing out at the show of shows.

Ellwood City resident Matt Boffo took time to put together the following information piece on the upcoming WrestleMania.

Boffo has been a main organizer in Pro Wrestling viewing parties and other functions in the Ellwood City area for several years and notably was responsible for Royal Rumble party in 2015 that netted live wrestling matches at the Ellwood City S.O.I. Club. [VIEW ARTICLE]

WWE Superstar Brock Lesnar

No need to adjust your lenses or television sets. It is not 2004. Yet, we will see Goldberg vs. Brock Lesnar again much like 13 years ago at WresteMania XX.  After more than a decade away from WWE, Goldberg returned this past November at Survivor Series, beating Lesnar. His only other singles match since his return was at February’s Fastlane where he defeated Kevin Owens for the Universal Championship. The stage is set for the Lesnar/Goldberg rematch of epic proportions.

A common argument from wrestling fans often heard is part timers like Goldberg should not be able to swoop in during WrestleMania season and steal slots from wrestlers who have been there week in and week out, year round.  Many feel Goldberg main eventing WrestleMania is a slap in the face to guys like Kevin Owens and AJ Styles.

My two Abe Lincoln’s on the matter is this: WWE is going for the big fight feel here.

They have two behemoths in Lesnar and Goldberg that will garner major mainstream media attention, which we all know Vinnie Mac loves.  Although I am empathetic towards the full timers, I feel WWE is making the right move with the Lesnar/Goldberg clash being the main event. It’s best for business. For my pick, I’m rolling with Brock Lesnar in a match that lasts less than 5 minutes.

WWE Superstar The Undertaker

As much as I’d love to see AJ Styles in a World Championship match at WrestleMania, especially after the year he’s had, I’m at peace with Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton slugging it out for the biggest prize in the business.  Wyatt is one of the most intriguing characters WWE has seen in years and his current world championship reign was long overdue. Orton has won a dozen world championships, headlined WrestleMania in the past and is a surefire hall of famer.

Local Ellwoodian Justin Lloyd, who once wrestled in an Ellwood City Grudge Match in front of a sold out crowd at the SOI states the following: “Wyatt and Orton have a chance to do something special here. It’s a compelling storyline that pits them both with a lot to lose.”

Even though this match is for the most prestigious wrestling championship in the world, the matchup itself is flying under the radar on the WrestleMania card.  This could be a good thing for Wyatt and Orton as they certainly have the ability to steal the show.  In a close one, my money is on Wyatt retaining the gold.

A few months back, not many people can say they expected Shane McMahon and AJ Styles to square off at WrestleMania. The die hard wrestling fans out there; for the majority, are not happy with Styles’ opponent.

My two pennies on the pending showdown is this: Shane is a McMahon, meaning he will stop at nothing to entertain.

WWE Superstar AJ Styles

AJ Styles is arguably the best wrestler in world. Put the two together at the biggest show of the year and it’s safe to say you have a winning formula.

Ellwood City resident Bronson Allman weighs in stating he expects a “street fight to allow Shane to do his famous daring stunts. Plus Shane will feel the obligation to upstage his performance against The Undertaker from last year. I really expect this match to be the best on the card outside Owens-Jericho.” Who knows what level of craziness McMahon will climb to at WrestleMania, but look for Styles to get the 1-2-3 in a memorable bout.

It’s not WrestleMania without The Undertaker! At the showcase of the immortals, Taker will battle Roman Reigns. The Dead Man strolls into the matchup with an incredible 23-1 record at WrestleMania.  With an “Old Guard vs. New Blood” feel, this matchup is a toss up that can go either way. WWE is heavily invested in Roman Reigns as being “the guy” to lead the company into the future.  Could we see a changing of the guard in Orlando? Perhaps. Will we see one for the ages? No doubt. I am going out on a limb that might snap and picking Reigns to hand The Undertaker his second WrestleMania loss.

Ellwood City alumni RJ Guy believes “the yard will have new landscaping once the match is all said and done and fans will see a passing of the torch, or in this case the new sod for the yard.”
