Cheerios Giving Away 100-Million Seeds to “Bring Back the Bees”

Have you noticed the iconic Buzz the Bee missing from one of the most popular cereal brands?

Scientists are not the only ones worried about the declining bee population – the General Mills cereal brand, Cheerios, is doing their part to reverse the declining bee population with their #BringBacktheBees movement.

Buzz the Bee

Hundreds of bee species are heading toward extinction, and according to Honey Nut Cheerios’ promotional video, bees have been in decline since World War II.  “In 2015, 42 percent of the bee colonies in the United States collapsed, and with more than 30 percent of all General Mills ingredients dependent on pollination, the company has decided to take action,” according to this source.

Cheerios started raising awareness of the bee decline by removing Buzz from their logos, and now they are hyping the movement by sending out free wildflower seeds.

The company has set a goal of sending out 100-million seeds in increments of 100 seeds per participant completely free to anyone in the nation who signs up.

The only catch is the company asks that participants plant the seeds in a “bee-friendly” area.

The movement is not the only thing Cheerios and General Mills are doing to promote the bee population. The company plans to plant “3,300 acres of nectar- and pollen-rich wildflowers” on their oat farms by 2020.

“People need bees. And now bees need people,” Cheerios official website states.

To be part of the movement you can sign up to receive your own packet of seeds here.

  1. Awesome awareness campaign!

  2. Aluminum in the stratospheric radiation management being sprayed as part of the ongoing geoengineering gives bees a sort of dementia. This along with GMO’s, pesticides and other factors make flower planting useless. I like the idea though as it pacifies the sheeple allowing life to continue as normal for just a little while longer. Plus…I like flowers!

  3. Love that you are helping the bees💖

  4. I love flowers. We need bees for all things we grow.

  5. This a great campaign! We all need to help save the bees.

  6. where can I get the seeds in the USA.

Just wanted some clarification on some “information” on Facebook going around… I’ll paste it here

Before you get too excited about the new Cheerios campaign, where they’ve decided to give out 100 million FREE wildflower seeds, let me tell you what’s really up…

    1. Cheerios tested HIGHER for GLYPHOSATE (aka Round Up) than any other food tested- with Glyphosate levels over 1,100 parts per billion! (Here’s the link from Consumer Affairs- https://www.consumeraffairs.com/…/after-fda-suspends-testin…)

    2. GLYPHOSATE IS WHAT IS KILLING THE BEES IN THE FIRST PLACE AND CHEERIOS REFUSES TO REMOVE IT FROM THEIR PRODUCTS! (Link: http://www.naturalnews.com/050926_honey_bees_colony_collaps…)

    3. The company that Cheerios has partnered with for this project, Vesey’s Seed Company, was formerly owned by Monsanto (the maker of GLYPHOSATE).

(Edited to add: Vesey’s Seeds has its own brand of seeds which ARE on the Safe Seed Pledge List, but look closely on their website and you will see that wildflowers are not listed as one of their Organic/non-GMO products. They sell seeds from other growers too, in addition to their own seeds, and one of these growers is CURRENTLY owned by Monsanto. It’s a loophole, smoke and mirrors to deflect from the truth, and it’s just another way they can appear to be giving away non-GMO wildflower seeds. They haven’t said these seeds are non-GMO… they’ve just said that their PERSONAL Vesey’s seed brand is. Here is a link to their website- please look carefully and note that they do not have wildflowers: http://m.veseys.com/…)

So um… enjoy those free wildflower seeds! But just know that they won’t put a dent in the damage Cheerios is doing to the honeybee population. And the seeds might be GMO. Consider buying some seeds from a reputable non-GMO seed company like Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company or Peaceful Valley Farm & Garden Supply or Seed Savers Exchange? 😉 Or even better- BUY LOCAL.

can you reassure us that the seeds that are part of the campaign to bring the population of the bees back up safe for them?

    • Greetings Della! As da Vinci said “I awoke only only to find that the rest of the world was still asleep”.
