Esther Jean Aiken, 86

Esther Jean Aiken, 86, of North Sewickley Twp. Ellwood City passed away peacefully Thursday, March 2, 2017 at her residence.

Born February 21, 1931 in New Brighton, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Mildred Gorby Welsh. She was married for 64 years to Donald R. Aiken, who survives.

Esther was a professional homemaker, taking pride in raising her four children. She was an active member of North Sewickley Presbyterian Church. Spanning 64 years, Esther was involved as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and served on the Kitchen Committee. She also worked on the Global Links Medical Mission Team. Esther enjoyed camping and she loved to embroider. She was famous for making delicious pies.

In addition to her husband, Don, survivors include three sons; Larry, Doug, and, Michael “Buck” (Vicki) Aiken; daughter, Cheryl (Dennis) Cortez, all of North Sewickley Twp.; two brothers, Raymond Welsh of New Brighton, Donald Welsh of California; four grandchildren, Lindsay (Jason) French, Josh Cortez, Brittany and Devin Aiken; and three great grandchildren, Chase, Karter, and Presley French.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Tuscic.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday March 6 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home 200 Fountain Ave. Ellwood City.   Friends will also be received at the North Sewickley Presbyterian Church on Tuesday from 10 until the time of the funeral service at 11 am. Pastor Nathan Loudon will officiate the services.   Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family suggests memorial contributions in Esther’s name be directed to Alzheimer’s Research or Gateway Hospice.
