Michael A. Young, 44

YoungMichael A. Young, 44, of Franklin Avenue, Ellwood City passed away on Monday, February 13, 2017 at UPMC Shadyside after fighting a courageous battle against cancer.

Born in New Brighton on November 5, 1972, Michael is the son of Ernest and Linda Vannoy Young of Ellwood City. Michael graduated from Laurel High School in 1991 and Gannon University in 1995. He worked at the Lawrence County Correctional Facility as a work-release coordinator before serving as the Chief of Security for Corrections Corporation of America. In 2011, he opened his own Farmers Insurance Agency on Lawrence Avenue in Ellwood City. Michael loved to fish. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler and Penguin fan. In his youth, Michael enjoyed playing hockey; he and his friends were instrumental in getting the dek hockey rink installed at Stiefel Park in the 1990’s. Michael attended Bell Memorial Church. A beloved son, husband and father, Michael loved playing outside with his boys, especially with their remote control tanks.

In addition to his parents, Michael is survived by his wife, the former Carrie Newton, whom he married on October 18, 2003 and his two sons, Nicklas and Gabriel Young.

Michael was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Friends will be received on Thursday, February 16th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Joseph A. Tomon, Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 97 Grim Avenue, Ellport.

A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, February 17th at 11:00 AM with Pastor Charlene Kennedy and Pastor Ray Medina.

Memorial contributions can be made in Michael’s name to either the Holy Redeemer Angel Fund or to the American Cancer Society.
