Dr. Allen A. Dunstan, 69

Dr. Allen A. Dunstan, 69, passed into eternal peace on Saturday, January 14th 2017.
Allen, a son of the late Kenneth and Thora Mae Dunstan was born December 20th 1947 in Meadville, Pa. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1966. He enlisted in the Army in 1967, where he was awarded a purple heart, a good conduct medal, a Vietnam gallantry cross with palm unit citation badge and a national defense service medal. He also won numerous military sharpshooting competition.
Returning from the military, he earned his Bachelors Degree in Psychology from Mansfield University, his Masters degree in education and his PHD in Psycho Educational Processes from Temple University. While in college he wrote the curriculum for the Mansfield school district. He was a champion of education for underprivileged and special needs children also for adults to continue their education.
He retired from the Federal Government, working at the Navel Depot in Mechanicsburg, Pa in 2002.
Allen was a member of the Military order of the purple heart which grants scholarships to children of veterans killed in the line of duty. He was also a member of the American Legion, the NRA, the Masons where he was a Master Mason in the Eureka- West Shore Lodge 302, F. & A. M., and the Shriners, and a 37 year member of Mensa. An accomplished artist, he was a member of the Mechanicsburg and Harrisburg art associations, donating many of his paintings to charity auctions.
Allen was blessed with a brilliant mind, a great sense of humor and a caring heart.
He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Helen; two sisters, Lynn (Chip) Campbell and Dawn (Rick) Fleischer, both of Ellwood City; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Bill Dunstan.
Visiting hours will be held Thursday, January 19th, 2017, from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 3 p.m. at the MARSHALL FUNERAL HOME, 200 Fountain Ave, Ellwood City, with Rev. Ray Medina officiating. Military rights will be conducted by the Veterans Honor Guard. Interment will take place at the Holy Redeemer Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Humane Society.
