Following the ongoing concern regarding the new water treatment plant scheduled to be built in the New Year, Pennsylvania American Water Company updated us on the other concern which affects many demographics across the nation – Chromium-6 a naturally occurring cancer causing agent, often found in many Pennsylvania water sources.

 

Ellwood City School District Forced to Hire Private Security for Games

Due to some discrepancies between the Borough and the police force, Lincoln High School was forced into the unfamiliar territory of hiring private security for their home sports games as opposed to the usual – having Ellwood City Police secure the games. The problem was not resolved in time for the games and the school did in fact have to hire private security.

 

“Casualties of Steel,” a Documentary on the Closing of Ellwood’s U.S. Steel

This article provides a brief synopsis of the full-length video (included in the post) “Casualties of Steel,” a documentary produced by Ben Minett of Carnegie Mellon University. The documentary chronicles the cultural impact of Ellwood’s steel company U.S. Steel which closed in 1974. Interestingly, the documentary has no narrator and instead progresses through the voices of Ellwood City residents.

Stephen Johns, a Wampum native and graduate of Lincoln High School class of 2010, has made his way to the big league! After signing a two year contract with the Dallas Stars, he has been officially playing in the NHL – even playing against his childhood heroes earlier this month, the Penguins.

 

Ellwood Resident Gets “Trumped” by Mysterious Caller

Tensions were high this year among those with differing political views – one woman was lead to a fake voter registration event by a mysterious caller, for what she believes was the perfect opportunity for the mysterious caller to take her Hillary Clinton for President sign down to replace it with a Trump for President sign.
