Meet the Cast: The Little Mermaid

Autograph signing

Lincoln High School will be performing The Little Mermaid as their musical this year. The high school was teetering between choosing The Little Mermaid or the Addams Family for the musical this year, but The Little Mermaid prevailed and the overall feeling about the final choice is excitement.

The play will be premiering at Lincoln High School on November 11 starting at 7p.m.

This is not a full list of the cast members, we only interviewed the main characters of the play:

Ariel

Jordan Gilcherst is a 17 year old senior at Lincoln and this is her fourth year of doing musicals. Ever since she was a little girl she has always loved Ariel and when they were casting for the role of Ariel she was hopeful to get the position. She loves being part of such a breathtaking experience and she’s looking forward to opening night because there is always a good crowd. After high school she plans on pursuing a degree in medical sciences as a physicians assistant with a minor in theater.

Prince Eric

Prince Eric -Joe Cortez

Prince Eric -Joe Cortez

Joe Cortez is a 17 year old senior at Lincoln and this is his 7th lead role in a play since 8th grade. Cortez said he would have been happy to be any character in the play but he is very excited that he was casted to be Prince Eric. He said he’s looking forward to being part of the play especially considering that it is the first year the play became available for schools to perform- also he is excited about a scene in the play where he gets to “fly”. Cortez is confident in his performing skills and he greatly anticipates opening night. His plan after high school is to go to college to pursue a degree in chemical engineering.

Ursula (double casted)

Ursela (double casted) - Annie Macom (left) Cami Cortez (right)

Ursela (double casted) – Annie Macom (left) Cami Cortez (right)

Cami Cortez is a 15 year old sophomore at Lincoln High School and she is the sister of Joe Cortez. She has been performing in plays since 7th grade after she witnessed her brother performing and she thought it looked like fun. Since she is double casted for the part of Ursela she will be performing two nights of the play and Annie Macom will be performing the other two nights as Ursela. This is not the first time Cami has been casted for a villain, she was the witch in Lincoln High’s play last year, Into the Woods. She remains undecided about her plans after high school.

Annie Macom is a 15 year old sophomore at Lincoln High School and she is also casted to be Ursula. She will be playing the character for two- out of the total four, nights. Macom and Cami were both casted for Ursula because they believe they are equally good actors and they both wanted to be Ursula. Macom has been performing since 2nd grade and she was the lead role in Into the Woods last year as Cinderella. She is looking forward to the final production of the play and seeing it all come together. Macom has her heart set in pursuing a music teaching degree after she graduates high school.

King Trident and Grimsby (double casted)

King Trident -Austin Dombeck

Austin Dombeck is a 17 year old senior at Lincoln High School and he was double casted with Keegen Reisinger for the roles of King Trident and Grimsby. Dombeck and Reisinger will be switching roles- one will play the king while the other plays Grimsby for two nights and then they will switch. This is the second year Dombeck is performing in a play and he is most looking forward to the adrenaline rush right before the start of the play on opening night. After high school he plans on pursuing a degree in nursing at an undecided college.

Grimsby -Keegen Reisinger

Grimsby -Keegen Reisinger

Keegen Reisinger is a 17 year old senior at Lincoln High School and he has been performing and singing since he was a child with his first lead role in 6th grade performing in Les Misérables. He said he believes he and Dombeck were double casted for the characters because one character’s dialog contains more singing while the other is mostly talking- and he thinks since he and Dombeck are equally qualified for the parts the directors wanted to be fair so they double casted the characters. Reisinger said he is excited to be part of a play that presented a challenge to the cast members. He is undecided on what his plans are after he graduates but he does hope to be casted in more plays.
