Nellie V. Nye Brown, 88, of the Carriage Court, Ellwood Road, New Castle, formerly of Glen Avenue, Ellwood City, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 19 2016 at Golden Hill Nursing Home, New Castle.
She was born in North Sewickley, Beaver County, on January 19 1928 to the late Joseph “Bert” Nye and the late Florence Lena Weil Nye.
Nellie graduated as valedictorian from the old Portersville-Muddy Creek High School, and later attended Butler Business College.
Nellie was a lifetime member of the Ellwood Free Methodist Church, where she served on the church board and was church treasurer for 35 years.
She worked at the Butler Memorial Hospital for over 28 years as the hospital’s records librarian.
In January 1976, she married the late Dale Brown Sr., who died November 18 2006.
Nellie is survived by stepchildren: Dale A. (and Linda) Brown Jr. of Ellwood City; Patricia R. (and Randall) Chronister of Slippery Rock; and Cynthia A. (and Henry) Glowgoski of Gambrills MD.
Three brothers also survive: Calvin W. Nye and M. Charles (and Ellen) Nye, all of Portersville; and Joseph B. (and Dawn) Nye of New Matamoras OH. One sister-in-law, Betsy Brown, of Ellwood City, also survives.
Three grandchildren and five great grandchildren survive, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, step nieces and step nephews.
In addition to her parents, and husband, Nellie was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret J. Lawther and Betty Rinker, and a brother in infancy.
Friends will be received from 1:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, October 23 2016 in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME, 500 Sixth Street, Ellwood City.
Services will be conducted on Sunday Oct. 23 at 3:00 P.M. at TURNERS with her pastor, Rev. Todd Onink, of the Free Methodist Church, officiating.
Burial will be in St. Marks Cemetery, Franklin Twp.
