Lynn N. Guy, 85

Lynn N. Guy of Wampum went peacefully home to be with the Lord on October 9, 2016 surrounded by all of his loving and devoted family.

He was born in Chewton on July 23, 1931 to the late Blanche Aley Guy and Frank J. Guy.

Lynn attended Wampum High School and Ellwood City High School. He also attended the New Castle School of trades, studying auto mechanics.

A veteran, Lynn served at Camp Irwin in Barstow, CA from 1951-1953. As part of the First Armored Battalion, he was a tank commander during the Korean War. Upon returning to Wampum, Lynn worked at the Babcock and Wilcox Steel Mill until retiring in 1986. He was later employed at Moraine State Park until his full retirement in 1994.

He married his devoted wife Helen Johnson on April 19, 1952. They were married 64 years and the two spent nearly seventy years together as a couple. They provided the ultimate example of love and marriage for their family.

Lynn had the ability to create, build, or fix anything. He spent hours in his garage working on the family cars and on special projects. He especially loved working on his ’52 Chevy Deluxe and helping his son build his home.

He enjoyed spending time outside, walking and biking around Wampum. He also enjoyed listening to music, coin collecting, and reading his bible.

During his life, Lynn was affiliated with The Chewton Christian Church and the former Queen of Heaven Parish. He was a member of the Wampum American Legion Post 749 and the Wampum Historical Society. He was a devoted father and grandfather.

Lynn is survived by his four children; Terri Guy of Wampum and her companion Mark Shaffer of New Castle; Cynthia Cassella and her husband Edward of New Castle; Rodney Guy and his wife Jeanne of Prospect; and Rachel Guy-Connell and her husband Aaron of New Castle.

He is also survived by his greatest joys in life, his grandchildren; Brett Cassella and fiancée Tiffany McClain of Monaca; Paige Cassella of New Castle; Jocelyn, Cole, and Rheannon Guy all of Prospect; and Gwendolynn and Helaina Connell, both of New Castle.

Lynn leaves behind several loved nieces and nephews along with his special niece Phyllis Kelly Kwolek, and his sisters-in-law Mary Jane Craven and Leita Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and sister-in-law, Neil and Shirley Guy, a sister and brother-in-law, Phillip and Eileen Kelly, sister-in-law Margaret Widowfield Clark, brother-in-law Russell Widowfield, brother-in-law Larry Craven, brother-in-law George Johnson and wife Pauline, and brothers-in-law and dear friends Paul Johnson, and Lester Johnson.

Lynn and his family relay a special thank you to Dr. Nora Paras and the staff of the Avalon Nursing Center for their care and kindness.

A private viewing for family and close friends will be held Wednesday from 9 to 11am at Marshall’s Funeral Home in Wampum, followed by a Blessing Service at 11. Military Services will be conducted by the Veterans Honor Guard. Entombment will take place at Parkside Cemetery.
