Dale B. Brown, 93, of Old Rt 18, Wampum (New Beaver Boro) passed away unexpectedly Thursday, October 6, 2016 at his residence.
Born March 9, 1923 in Wampum, he was the son of the late William A. and Icle Vogel Brown. He was married for 61 years to Evelyn M. Swogger Brown who passed away September 27, 2006.
Dale graduated from Wampum High School in 1941. He proudly served in the Army during WWII. He served with the 148th and 1275th Combat Engineers from 1943 to 1946 in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theatres. He was awarded the Presidential Citation for his dedicated service. Dale was one of the founding members of the Wampum American Legion Post 749. Following his honorable discharge, Dale worked at Medusa Cement Company until he left to start his own business. He owned and operated Brown and Houk Hardware in Wampum for a number of years. Following its closure, he worked at Colton Hardware in Ellwood City for a few years. Dale then went back to work and retired from Medusa in 1984. An active member of the Wampum Presbyterian Church, Dale served as an Elder, former Deacon and former Trustee. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge # 599 in Ellwood City and the Tall Cedars.
Survivors include three daughters, Linda (Clarence “Beaver”) Leslie of Moravia, Susan (Rick) Seaburn and Nancy Brown, both of Wampum; sister, Ethel Wardman of Wampum; four grandchildren, Thomas Dale (Ranee) Leslie, Lorey (Todd) Smith, Amy (Kevin) Coppola, Tara Bartolone; and six great grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday October 9 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home 341 Main Street Wampum. Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 11 am with his pastor, Rev. Dr. William R. McGary officiating. Full military rites will be offered by the Veterans Honor Guard. Interment will follow in Clinton Cemetery.
