Gibbons Announces State Grants to Help Lawrence County Fire Companies

HARRISBURG, Sept. 21 – State Rep. Jaret Gibbons, D-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence, announced that two rural fire companies in the 10th Legislative District are receiving $5,667 in state grants to aid their operations.

Local fire companies in rural areas or communities with fewer than 10,000 residents qualify for the aid.

“I am happy that our fire companies are being awarded this financial boost so they can continue providing needed life-saving services in order to protect citizens living in rural areas,” Gibbons said.

Fire companies in the 10th Legislative District receiving grants are:

  • New Beaver Borough Volunteer Fire Department, Wampum, $2,900;
  • Volant Volunteer Fire Company, Volant, $2,767.

The grants are made possible through the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ Bureau of Forestry with funding supplied by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Forest Service through the cooperative Forestry Assistance Act of 1978.

Aid is granted on a cost-share basis, with recipients supplying matching funds. The bureau will begin accepting 2017 applications next spring.

The bureau accepts only online applications.  Visit www.dcnr.pa.gov and click on “Apply for Grants,” then “Online Grant Applications” and “DCNR Volunteer Fire Assistance.
