Ellwood City Area Public Library Activities for Week of September 26, 2016

Activities taking place at the Ellwood City Area Public Library include the following:

Tuesday, September 27, at 3:00 p.m. – Creative Writing Workshop for students in 7th grade and up. The group meets twice each month to share their work and discuss writing tips and techniques. New members are always welcome. Call the library at 724-758-6458 for more information.

Tuesday, September 27, at 6:00 p.m. – A fall gardening program presented by the Master Gardeners of Lawrence County will be featured. The program’s topic is “Plants in Archaeological Sites: What They Tell Us” and will focus on the recovery of plant remains from archaeological sites. Attendees will get to examine carbonized plant materials under a microscope. Another fall gardening program is scheduled for October 19 and features the topic, “Mighty House Plants and the Magnificent Orchid.” There is a $5 registration fee for both sessions, but walk-ins are welcome. Wednesday, September 26, at 10:00 a.m. — “Coloring for Adults,” a weekly program that is free and open to the public. “Coloring for Adults” is a new concept in helping to reduce the stresses of everyday life. Everyone is welcome, so call the library for more information.

Wednesday, September 26, at 6:00 p.m. — “Movie Night for Adults.” These sessions are held monthly at the library and featured are new-to-DVD films and refreshments. The events are free and open to all area adults. Call the library for more information or to discover the title of the film to be shown.

The library’s annual Book Sale is scheduled for October 3-8, with a bake sale on October 3rd kicking off the week-long event. A wide variety of books are featured as are DVDs, Audio Books on CD and Music CDs. Donations are still being accepted this week and can be brought to the library during regular business hours. Books of all types in good condition are welcomed. However, the library will NOT accept any encyclopedias, no textbooks, no magazines, no Readers’ Digest Condensed books and no VHS tapes. Saturday, October 1, at 12:00 Noon – “Twenty-Something Book Discussion Group” for college-aged students and adults in their twenties. The group meets once each month for discussion and refreshments. Members will discuss the book, “The Rest of Us Just Live Here,” by Patrick Ness. Call the library for more information.

The library will be participating in the Annual Oktoberfest in Ewing Park on Saturday, October 8th. Featured at the event, which is held from 12:00 to 5:30 p.m. rain or shine, are food, beverages, live music and a corn-hole tournament. The library will have a baked goods booth at the festival. Tickets for the event may be purchased at the library at a cost of $20 each. Tickets purchased the day of the event cost $25. Call the library for more information.
