McConnells Mill Heritage Festival Sept. 24 and 25

History comes alive at the 24th Annual Heritage Festival at McConnells Mill State Park on Saturday, September 24, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, September 25, 2016 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Festival, sponsored by the Portersville-Prospect Rotary, celebrates the operational time period of the historical gristmill—from 1852 to 1928.

Artists and craftspeople from the local area demonstrate their skills and provide regional art for sale. Bluegrass music and free tours of the mill will be offered. The historic gristmill houses the fascinating machinery that ground the grain for the community surrounding Slippery Rock Gorge. A civil war encampment with live cannon fire at 11:00, 12:30, 2:00 and 4:00 and family activities both days bring history to life. On Saturday only, the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy will offer a variety of free nature-focused activities and crafts for kids, as well as family-friendly guided hikes beginning at 11 a.m. near the gristmill. A Sunday morning “Old Time” church service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Located in Kildoo picnic area, and the gristmill.
