Eric Ryan Corporation’s Letter to Borough Manager

At Monday’s meeting, Borough Manager Bob Vilella read part of an email he received from Keith Venezie, CEO of the Eric-Ryan Corporation, an Ellwood-based nationally known utility auditing firm.

After receiving a copy and permission from Venezie, here is the full email:

“Back in March, I became concerned about the increase in the electric cost not only on my personal bills but the community billings as well. I exercised the “right to know” law and the boro complied immediately with my request for contract and billing information. My staff spent several hours reviewing the calculations. Based on the information we were provided, we were able to validate that

  • The boro is being billed correctly by the suppliers based on the contracts that were negotiated and executed
  • The boro is billing the customers (who’s bills we reviewed) correctly based on the current ordinance.
  • The PPA that is part of that ordinance is being calculated and billed properly.

Although we don’t completely agree with how the energy is being purchased on behalf of the boro and the need for the PPA formula, we find that all aspect of the billing process appear to be correct. I would like to offer our services to any member of the community that would like their bill analyzed and validated. We have a software tool that can normalize the data based on degree days (which is weather) and billing days. As we all should know, both play a large factor in how much a bill is each month. Our service is free to the public should they wish to stop in and discuss.”

  1. How about we have an audit done by someone in our government? Letting a town corporation audit seems kind of wrong.
