Paul A. Maochi, 94

Paul A. Maochi, 94, of Ellwood City passed away on Monday, June 13, 2016 in his residence. Paul was born on Jan. 24, 1922 in New Galilee to the late Peter and Angeline (Caroni) Maochi. Paul is a member of the Beaver Falls High School class of 1939. He enlisted with the U.S. Army on Jan. 28, 1943 and served with the Medical Corps in Northern Ireland, England and France until his discharge on Dec. 26, 1945 with the rank of Technical Sergeant. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with two Bronze Stars.

Paul was then employed by the Babcock & Wilcox Steel Mill for 46 years, retiring as a supervisor. Paul also served on the board of directors for the Beaver Valley Federal Credit Union. Paul was a member of the Holy Redeemer Parish where he served as one of the first Eucharistic Ministers and CCD teacher. Previously, Paul was a member of the St. Ann Parish in New Galilee, where he also served as a CCD Teacher. Paul was also active in the community, serving as a director on the New Galilee School Board, director of the LMBA Social Club in New Galilee and helped organize New Galilee Little League Baseball. Paul had an active retirement where he enjoyed winemaking, painting, walking, visiting and spending time with his family.

Paul is survived by his wife Phyllis DeCaria Maochi, his daughters, Paula (Kevin) Laird of Pittsburgh, and Valerie (David) Sheldon of Kalispell, Montana, his son, James Maochi of Bridgeville, his six grandchildren, Nicholas and Lauren Maochi of Pittsburgh, and Emma, Jordan, Jack, and Katie Sheldon of Kalispell, Montana, and his sister-in-law, Mary DeCaria of Ellwood City.

He is also survived his nephew Michael DiToro of Chippewa and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and one brother.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. in the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home, Inc. and Cremation Services. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Holy Redeemer Church with Father Zachary Galiyas officiating. Entombment will follow at the Holy Redeemer Cemetery Mausoleum. Those attending the funeral mass are asked to meet at the funeral home on Thursday by 9:20 a.m. Members of the Veterans Honor Guard are asked to meet at the cemetery on Thursday by 10:50 a.m. to conduct full military honors.
