George Robert “Bob” Gilchrist, 92

George Robert “Bob”  Gilchrist, 92, of Venice Florida, formerly of Ellwood City, passed  away peacefully on  Thursday afternoon, June 2,  2016 at The Summit Assisted Living Center in Venice FL.

He was born in Ellwood City on June 21 1923 to the late  Russell T. Gilchrist and the late Maude Ethel Fullmer Gilchrist.   He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1943, and then served in the US Army Air Corps during World War II, later during the Korean War from 1949-1952, and then as senior master sergeant with the Air Force, where he served as an aide to President  Dwight Eisenhower.  He served his country for over 22 years .

He attended  Westminster College in New Wilmington from 1946-1949, and then Ohio University in Athens OH from 1952-1955.

Bob was formerly a  member of First Baptist Church in Ellwood City.

He worked at the  New Castle  Civil Service Office and PA Bureau of Employment Security until his retirement.

The last of his family, George was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother:  Hazel Ferrucci,

Thelma Simon,  Beverly “Betty” Chesko Locke, and  Harold “Bus” Gilchrist.

Bob  is survived by one  nephew and two  nieces:  Ronald (and Susan) Gilchrist of Ellwood City;  Patricia (Donald) Stoll of Monaca PA;  and  Donna (and Gene) Montozzi of Spring Hill FL.

He was also preceded by two nephews:  William Ferrucci and David Gilchrist.  Their wives,  Barbara Ferrucci and Patty Gilchrist, survive.

Friends will be received from  11:00 A.M   until 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 7 in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME, 500 Sixth Street,  Ellwood City.

Services will be conducted on  Tuesday, June   7 , 2016 at  1:00 P.M. at TURNERS, with the Rev.  David W. McQuaide, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Ellwood City, officiating.

Burial will be in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park, Rochester.

Memorial donations may be made to the donors’ favorite charity.     Full military rites will be observed by the Veteran Honor Guard at Turners.
