Corona D’Italia May Meeting

Corona D’Italia Lodge #807 held their annual Mother-Daughter-Scholarship dinner Wednesday, May 4 at 5 p.m. at the Wolverine Restaurant. Members and guests were greeted and registered by Patti Kuhn, Maura Greco and their mother the lodge treasurer, Louise Vitullo. The lodge sentinel, Lois DiFrischia, directed the seating of the scholarship honorees, guests and members. Each place setting was presented with favors made by Orator Valerie Valentino.

Mistress of Ceremony Mary Quintanilla welcomed all in attendance to begin the festivities. She introduced President Clemmy Sirimarco who extended Mother’s Day greetings to mothers and daughters and recognition to scholarship winners Christopher Maielli and Jordan Dobbins. MC Quintanilla then recognized trustee Patty Regna who offered a moment of silence for all deceased members their families and all our military personnel. She then voiced an invocation for the meal. The sit-down Italian platter dinner with dessert of pastries was served by the Wolverine staff.

A program followed with a toast to mothers given by Christine Butchelli, daughter-in-law of vice-president Ann Butchelli. Ann responded with a toast to daughters. The MC introduced Valentino, chairman of the scholarship committee who presented Lincoln High Senior Christopher Maielli with a $500 Corona D’Italia scholarship. He expressed his gratitude for the honor and for his grandfather, John Maielli, Sr. a member of Sons of Italy #608 that made him eligible for the award. He presented his academic credentials and total school activities, church and community involvement. He will attend the University of Akron, majoring in Marketing.

Valentino then presented Canon-McMillan High School of Canonsburg, Pa. senior Jordan Dobbin, with a $500 Corona D’Italia Scholarship. She responded with her gratitude for the honor and for her Grandfather Herman D’Amico, an officer in the Sons of Italy #608 that generated her award eligibility. She presented her academic credentials and her school, church and community involvement. Attending California University of Pennsylvania, she will study Social Deviance.

Concluding the presentations, Valentino thanked the students, their families in attendance, Mr. and Mrs. John Maielli Jr., Mr. and Mrs. John Maielli Sr., Mrs. Karen Kahrer, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Heckendorn and Mrs. Amy Dobbin, and her committee DiFrischia and trustee Pudue La Cava. President Sirimarco thanked the committee and all the lodge officers for their work.

MC Quintanilla photographed the event and directed the 50-50 raffle won by Mrs. Kahrer and the door prize also won by Kahrer. Social games followed directed by Valentino and her committee.

The next monthly meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 8 at 5 p.m. at Pizza Joe’s.
