Gibbons: Treasury Small Business Event Set in Pittsburgh in June

Pittsburgh, May 19 – State Rep. Jaret Gibbons, D-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence, said the Pennsylvania Treasurer’s Office Small Business Initiative is coming to the University of Pittsburgh.

The event will be held from 7:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, June 2, at the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business and the Institute for Entrepreneurial Excellence Alumni Hall, 4227 Fifth Ave.

Gibbons said small business is the engine of Pennsylvania’s economy with approximately 1 million small businesses employing 2.4 million workers across the Commonwealth.

“Small businesses are the backbone of our communities in Pennsylvania,” Gibbons said. “Often businesses face a number of challenges, including developing new markets, and hiring and retaining good people to work at the businesses. The workshops are a great opportunity to connect with other business owners on a variety of topics such as finance and revenue.”

The Small Business Initiative is aimed at increasing revenue and job growth of Pennsylvania-based small businesses. The seminars are held in four regions across the state on topics to help small businesses address the most pressing issues affecting their business.

The $50 registration fee for small businesses is being waived because of a conference sponsor.

Small businesses are defined as having 500 or fewer workers and account for over 47 percent of the private sector labor force in the commonwealth.

Gibbons said the business events are half-day or full-day workshops, depending on the product offering. The workshops will focus on health and insurance, corporate structure and governance, finance and revenue, and legal and intellectual property.

Businesses are asked to use the promotional code “PittsburghComp” when registering. To register or learn more visit www.patreasury.gov or call 717-787-2991.
