Shirley A. Miller Boariu, 79

Shirley A. Miller Boariu, 79, of Ellwood City, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, May 5, 2016 at Silver Oaks Health and Rehabilitation Center in New Castle following a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born in Ellwood City on December 16, 1936 to the late John M. Miller, Sr., who died in 1997, and the late Clara Himes Miller, who died in 1995.  She was a graduate of Lincoln High School.  Shirley married her husband of 45 years, Emil Boariu, on February 15, 1958.  He preceded her in death on April 16, 2003.  She was a devoted member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ellwood City, where she had served on the church council.  Shirley worked as a secretary at the Ellwood City Forge and, in retirement, as a crossing guard for the Borough of Ellwood City.  She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Ellwood City Chapter #212, Lady Saxons Branch 32, the Ellwood City Hospital Auxiliary, and served as a sergeant in the Ellwood City Auxiliary Police, as well as volunteering for Meals on Wheels.

In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley was preceded in death by her sister, Janice L. Miller, in infancy in March of 1941.

She is survived by her brother, John M. “Jack” (and Sally Ann) Miller of Jacksonville, FL, and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue.

Services will be conducted at 11 A.M. on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 307 Wayne Avenue, Ellwood City, PA 16117, with lay pastor Robert Niggel, officiating.

Interment will be in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park, Daugherty Township.

Members of the Order of the Eastern Star are asked to meet at the funeral home at 5:30 P.M. on Tuesday to conduct an Eastern Star funeral service.
