Lawrence County’s Annual Earth Day Celebration at Ewing Park

Lawrence County’s Annual Earth Day Celebration will feature more than 40 educational exhibitors and vendors, plenty of exciting activities, great entertainment, horse-drawn trolley rides and a Wild World of Animals show. The event is free and will be held on Saturday, April 23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Ewing Park. Earth Day is planned and hosted by Ellwood City Community Enrichment and the Ellwood City Earth Day Committee.

“We have numerous activities, exhibits, entertainment and vendors to fill the park this year,” Rhonda Dam, Lawrence County Earth Day’s Event Organizer, said. “There is so much talent and useful information this year, the Earth Day festivities will keep attendees busy all day.”

The event will feature:

  • Exhibits: 40-plus educational exhibits or vendor booths by individuals, groups, businesses that will focus on Earth friendly topics/products.
  • Entertainment: The entertainment will be kicked off at 10 a.m. by Noah Rectenwald and other local artists.
  • Wild World of Animals Show: At 12:30 for an hour on Folino Stage. This well-known show has been featured on national stages such as David Letterman.
  • Horse-Drawn Trolley Rides: Provided by Friendship Hill Equine Services, this is a favorite of Earth Day Celebration attendees.

In the spirit of Earth Day, instead of a paper map attendees will be able to scan a QR code that will be displayed throughout the park with a smart phone to view a map of Ewing Park and list of exhibitors.

“This method of information is just one step in the direction of moving toward a no-waste event,” Dam said.

This event is made possible by many volunteers and generous sponsorships. INMETCO will provide refreshments, which will be served by the Carpenters Project volunteers. They will also have tree seedlings and a giveaway while supplies last.

The event is also sponsored by Ellwood City area businesses and individuals including: Nalco, Armstrong Cable, Parent’s Preschool, Lawrence County Commissioners and Katy’s Baked Goods This event has also been made possible by The Caroline Knox Memorial Trust Fund and The Hoyt Foundation. Recycling collection will not be part of Earth Day festivities this year.
