Dorothy M. “Dot” Marshall, 84

Dorothy M. “Dot” Marshall, 84, of Wake Forest, NC, formerly of Fombell, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, April 3 2016 at her son’s home in Wake Forest.

She was born in Rochester, PA on June 7, 1931, the seventh of nine children of the late Albert  R. and Rilla Pickens Johnson.  Dorothy was a graduate of Beaver Falls High School in the class of 1950.  She married her husband of 65 years, Mervin D. Marshall, in November of 1950, who survives in North Carolina.  Dot and Merv purchased the Goehring farm in Marion Township in 1959 and spent an enjoyable lifetime remodeling the farmhouse, originally built in 1873, and surrounding buildings and grounds.  Besides being a loving mother, grandmother and homemaker, Dot thoroughly enjoyed flowers and gardening.   She conceived and operated a commercial greenhouse, Dot’s Garden Spot, for many years.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law:  Mervin (and Linda) Marshall, Jr. of Raleigh, NC and Donald R. (and Janice) Marshall of Wake Forest, NC.  She is also survived by seven grandchildren:  Chad, Garett, Kelsey, Trey, Sara, Darren, and Leanna, as well as two great grandchildren, and four brothers: Sidney (and Patty) of Eastvale, William of Shippingport, PA, Harold (and Peg) of Monaca, and Robert (and Toy) of Homewood, PA, and a sister-in-law, Eleanor, of New Brighton.

In addition to her parents, she wass preceded in death by one sister, Delysia Freeman, and by three brothers: Carl, Clarence, and Harvey.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. on Friday, April 8, 2016 in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue.

Services will be conducted at 11 A.M. on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at TURNER’S with the Rev. John H. Phipps, Senior Pastor of Concord Methodist Church, officiating.

Burial will follow in the Concord Methodist Church Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made, in Dot’s name, to the Salvation Army, in consideration for the assistance they provided her family following the untimely loss of her father at a young age.
