Baseball/Softball Recaps: Ellwood City Softball Starts Season with 10-0 Win

The Lady Wolverines started their season with 10-0 win over Freedom in a home non-conference game on Thursday.

The Ellwood City softball team got their first run in the third inning when senior Allie McKelvey stole second and subsequently third and got batted in with a single by senior Mallory Swaggor.

The Lady Wolverines overpowered Freedom in the fifth inning with seven runs, followed by two in the seventh inning.

Juniors Camille Maine and Eisabella Miller each had three RBIs. McKelvey, Swogger and Maine each had two runs. Pitcher Skyla Greco kept Freedom pinned down with 11 strike outs and only two hits against.

However, Freedom is not indicative of the competition the team will be facing later in the season.

“Going forward we are looking to improve each day at each aspect of the game and continue to grow as a team,” head coach Gary Rozanski said. “We want to be the best team we can on and off the field.  Our first goal is to qualify for the playoffs.”

Riverside Baseball Wins 10-0

The Riverside baseball team also won their first game 10-0 in a home non-conference game against Western Beaver on Thursday.

The Panthers got three runs in the second inning, sixth in the fourth and one in the sixth. Pitcher Vince Loccisano shut down the opposition with nine strike outs.

Ellwood City Loses 9-4

The Ellwood City Wolverines lost a home game against Moon on Saturday.

In the bottom of the fourth, Ellwood got two runners on base but Moon’s pitcher struck out the next two batters. In the seventh inning, Moon’s Austin Hoffman hit in the final two runs with a home run.
