John L. Perno, 67

John L. Perno, 67, of West Pittsburgh passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 in the Butler Memorial Hospital.

John was born on Oct. 19, 1948 in Ellwood City to the late John J. and Antionette Melozzi Perno. He is a member of the Lincoln High School class of 1966. John enlisted with the U.S. Army on February 20, 1968 and served with the Company A 14th Battalion until his discharge on Feb. 19, 1970 with the rank of sergeant. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Purple Heart, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, Civil Actions Honor Medal, Air Medal, Bronze Star Medal and the Army Commendation Medal.

John worked at the Babcock & Wilcox Steel Mill in Beaver Falls until the plant closed in 1984 as a truck driver. He then worked at the Beaver Falls Post Office as a letter carrier from 1986 until he retired in 2006. John enjoyed wood working, car cruises and antique cars.

John is survived by his wife Deborah A. Schutte Perno whom he married on May 23, 1970, his daughter, Nicole (Robert) Martin of New Middletown, Ohio, his grandchildren, Kelsey Lynn Martin, Adyson Grace Martin, Linley Ryan Martin, and Ellyot Claire Martin, his sister, Diana (Richard) Sperdute of Ellwood City, and his brothers, Thomas (Chris) Perno of Florida, and Ronald (Jessica) Perno of Franklin Twp.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Rosann Perno. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home, Inc. and Cremation Services. A Blessing Service for John will be held on Saturday in the funeral home at 11 a.m. with Father Mark Thomas officiating. Members of the Veterans Honor Guard are asked to meet at the funeral home on Saturday by 10:50 a.m. to conduct full military honors. Interment will be at the Holy Redeemer Cemetery.
