Energy and Advanced Manufacturing Day to Be Held at CCBC

Monaca, PA – With a focus on increasing awareness of the job opportunities and career pathways associated with the energy and advanced manufacturing industries, the Beaver County Energy & Advanced Manufacturing Partnership is hosting a Student and Parent Forum at CCBC on Tuesday, March 15 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Middle school and high school students and their parents will have the opportunity to learn about training and career opportunities available in the energy and manufacturing industries through panel discussions, interactive displays, and educational exhibitor presentations.

“This is a great opportunity for parents and youth to meet area employers from the energy and advanced manufacturing industries and learn about today’s and tomorrow’s jobs,” John Goberish, Dean of Workforce and Continuing Education at CCBC, said.

In 2014, the Beaver County Energy & Advanced Manufacturing Partnership was formed between business, industry and education in order to influence the pursuit of High Priority Occupations (HPO) in the energy and advanced manufacturing sectors by having students gain a better understanding of the opportunities, skillsets, and educational needs for these industries.

“The Energy & Advanced Manufacturing Partnership plays a vital role in helping to align parents, students and educators with current and future career options. The best way for any industry to create their employee of the future is to make certain they understand the required skills, and best educational paths, that will help them achieve success as they pursue their career goals,” Jack Manning, President and Executive Director, Beaver County Chamber of Commerce, said.

The Partnership aims to create student and school awareness for post-high school opportunities; provide an opportunity for employers to communicate skills needed in jobs; and help bridge relationships between the education community and business and industry.

“CCBC places great importance on developing programs that meet the needs of industry; partnering with area employers, school districts, and community organizations; and highlighting the exciting career pathways in energy and advanced manufacturing,” Goberish said.

Through the Student and Parent Forum, members of the Partnership plan to educate the individuals who can influence students’ career decisions by involving parents, teachers, administrators and guidance staff.

“There will be a significant number of energy and advanced manufacturing job opportunities coming to Beaver County in the near future, and we want to make certain that our youth are prepared for these opportunities,” Richard Riley, Director, Job Training for Beaver County, Inc, said.

The Beaver County Energy & Advanced Manufacturing Partnership currently involves representatives from the Beaver County Chamber of Commerce; Job Training for Beaver County, Inc.; Community College of Beaver County; Beaver County Career & Technical Center; Beaver Valley Intermediate Unit; The Franklin Center of Beaver County, Inc.; Catalyst Connection; Junior Achievement of Western PA; Pittsburgh Airport Area Chamber of Commerce; Builders Guild of Western PA; Consumer Energy Alliance; Ardex Americas; Range Resources; c3controls; Columbia Gas of PA; Penn State University (Beaver Campus); and Geneva College.
