Local Resident to Be Featured Tonight “Get Marty” Television Series

Local resident Joseph Gasper will be featured tonight on KDKA during the popular Marty Griffin series, “Get Marty”, a segment that appears on the six o’clock news.

97 year-old Gasper, one of the area’s last surviving veterans, was injured on Dec. 7, 1941 at the attack on Pearl Harbor. His family had tried several times 18 months ago to get a chair lift installed, so he could safely go downstairs from his bedroom to the rest of the house. The Veterans Association was unable to install a chair lift. Gasper, who Griffin featured on his Facebook Page in December before the anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, contacted Griffin and told him about the situation.

Griffin contacted A+ Stair Lifts owned by Carl and Gina D’Alicandro for assistance. The D’Alicandros have installed Stair Lifts for local area residents, without remuneration for several years. A group in Monroeville made a special seat pattern with Gasper’s name, and a message thanking him for his military service. Griffin came to Gasper’s house on Friday and filmed the segment, which features D’Alicandro hard at work, Gasper using the lift and a talk with his children and grandchildren about what this means to the family.

“Get Marty” appears on the nightly six o’clock news on KDKA (CBS). The feature was originally scheduled for last week but was moved to tonight.
