Rotary Club January Meeting Recap

The Rotary Club of Ellwood City met for their weekly meeting on Thursday, Jan. 7. The club is planning to sponsor a performance of the Duquesne University Tambouritzans.

Pete Kucan presented the information to the club. The performance will be on Sunday, March 20, pre-sale tickets will be $20 and tickets at the door will be $25. The group of dancers has appeared for many years on stages all over the world and features folk dances from many nations and cultures including all the Slavic nations in central and Eastern Europe. Alena Kucan, recent Lincoln High School graduate, is a member of the Tambouritzans and a Duquesne student. She will be performing with the group.

Guest speaker was Carolyn Izzo, CEO of Ellwood City Hospital. She gave a talk on hospital economics and recent history. She addressed the recent report regarding bad infections, stating that there are two categories of which the Ellwood City Hospital had none in the first category and only three in a two year time span for the other category, which is a very low number.

Carol Monk administered the 50/50 drawing won by Jim Houk and collected Happy Bucks for the Rotary Foundation.

Next Meeting will be Thursday, Jan. 21 at the Connequenessing Country Club at 5:45 p.m. for fellowship and 6pm dinner.
