Bernice Ruth Poholsky, 89

Bernice Ruth Poholsky, 89, formerly of Ellwood City, passed away peacefully on Monday evening, Jan. 11, 2016 at Family Hospice and Palliative Care Canterbury Campus in Pittsburgh.

She was born in Ellwood City, on April 9, 1926 to the late John W. Duffy and the late Minnie Ladebu Duffy.

Bernice graduated from Lincoln High School in the class of 1944. She was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star #212 in Ellwood City. Bernice worked in the industrial relations department at Aetna Standard Engineering until retiring in 1986.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Michael Poholsky, who died on Dec. 22, 1995. The last of her family, she was also preceded in death by her sister, Margaret M. “Peg” Duffy, and her brothers, Bernard, Eugene, and Paul Duffy.

Bernice is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Margaret M. “Peggy” (and David) Stettner, of Pittsburgh. Two grandchildren, Michael J. (and Julie) Stettner and Hayley M. Stettner, also survive, as well as many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.

Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until the time of service at noon on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 207 Spring Avenue, Ellwood City, PA 16117 with Rev. Peggy Suhr-Barkley, her pastor, officiating.

Interment will follow in Locust Grove Cemetery, North Sewickley Township. Members of the Order of the Eastern Star #212 are asked to meet at the church at 11:30 a.m. to conduct an Eastern Star funeral service. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Turner Funeral Home of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue.

In lieu of flowers, memorials contributions may be made, in Bernice’s name, to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.
