Joseph B. Bellissimo, Sr., 89, of Hershey, Pa., formerly of Ellwood City and Pittsburgh, died on Sept. 25, 2015. Born July 17, 1926 in Derry, Pa., he was the son of the late Vincenzo and Antoinette Cosentino Bellissimo.
Mr. Bellissimo graduated in 1944 from Lincoln High School, Ellwood City and attended music schools in Cincinnati, Philadelphia, and Julliard Conservatory of Music in New York City. He was a member of the French horn section of the West point Army Orchestra. He played as a member of the New Orleans Symphony Orchestra and principle French horn with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. Following his music career, he was a business owner in Pittsburgh.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Joan, of 61 years and two sons; Dr. Joseph Bellissimo, Jr. and wife, Melanie of Hershey, Pa.; James Bellissimo and wife, Maureen of Clarksville, Va.; surviving also are seven grandchildren: Nathaniel, Bryan and wife Mallory, Molly and husband Sam Catron, Mica, Don, Joseph, and Toby Bellissimo; and one great-grandchild, William H. Catron. Joseph is survived by one sister, Ann (Bellissimo) Colavincenzo, sisters-in-law, Lillian and Vilma Bellissimo of Ellwood City, Pa., as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his sister Rose (Bellissimo) Ferrese, brothers, Frank (Jack), Vincent (Jim), and Vito Bellissimo, sister-in-law, Velma Bellissimo, and brothers-in-law, James Ferrese and Herbert Colavincenzo.
Family and friends will be received on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2015 in the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home, Inc. and Cremation Services from 10:30 until the time of the Blessing Service at 11 a.m. Interment will be at the Holy Redeemer Cemetery.
